Living during a period obsessed with technological advancement, I look back to this tool, the wheelbarrow, and its almost unchanging nature. I explore different designs of the wheelbarrow, from fundamental and practical to imaginary. Imagining and designing a futuristic wheelbarrow builds on tensions between technological advancement and illicit labour practices that provide resources for such improvements in the DRC and Africa. Creating a futuristic wheelbarrow emphasizes the tensions and links between illicit labour and technological progress, bringing to light the absurdity of progress at any cost.
